Eaton is a family-run, local homecare agency and we pride ourselves on knowing our support workers and the challenges of the environment in which they work. At Eaton we also subscribe to the mantra that you, the care team, are people with your own needs, as well as employees. To that end we endeavour to look after all our staff, as we don’t believe that people can care to the best of their ability if they are unhappy in their role.

It’s a fulfilling job knowing that you are the eyes, ears and sometimes, legs of a client, making their daily life easier…. I recall caring for a client terrified of taking a shower. We built a great friendship and trust, encouraging him slowly of the benefits to his health.  In the end it was a revelation to him.  Now he asks daily when can he have another shower…. I keep a healthy balance between  ‘care’ and my family life.  I love dancing…. but only when no one is watching

Care, is a gift, not a given

Trusting relationships

We manage our care packages through a team approach and, wherever possible, we provide a consistent service for each client. This allows a trusting relationship to be formed between clients and a small number of team members, meaning there is little impact on the client’s wellbeing during periods of staff training and holidays. This approach also provides regular work for a carer even when a customer is taken to hospital at very short notice.

A day in the life of an

A typical day in my role is getting up at 5.30am to be at my first client for 7am. Assisting with her morning routine including personal care and preparation of breakfast. Administering medication. Then on to my next clients until the last one of the round at 1pm. I prepare her some lunch, do some household chores and leave her sitting comfortable with drinks before I set off for home. Throughout the shift I have lovely chats with my clients and they fill me in with what’s going on in their lives and any worries or issues they have.
