As a provider of private homecare services, Eaton Home Care is pleased to provide regular updates on resources for carers in Cambridgeshire. And, support – of course. As a son, daughter or a concerned relative, you’ll know it’s hard to “switch off” and get the help you and make time for you.
We’ve put together this resources page to offer information on just a few key places, spaces and support services that could make all the difference. In our experience, with time out, sharing with others and knowing you are not alone, you could feel more resilient. It goes without saying, we cannot give to others without taking care of ourselves.
Remember, we know this much is true:
You can’t pour from an empty cup.
Did You Know About Our Sitting Services…?
As a carer, do you need to be somewhere else, or just need a break? Eaton Home Care offers short-term, ad hoc sitting services for the support and peace of mind you need. Now, you can relax. Your loved one will be in the very best hands.
From 2 hours to a full day, or even overnight, we’re here to help you take some much-needed time – just for yourself. Or, for practical things.
A village charity based in Histon, HI Friends provides wellbeing, mobility and recreation support to the local community. Here is the link to their website:
In particular, you may find their Wellbeing Café of interest.
Every Wednesday, from 5.30pm until 7pm, at Kay Hitch Way Community Centre, Kay Hitch Way, Histon, CB4 9YR you are invited to the HI Friends Wellbeing Café.
This is a safe space for you if, in your role as a carer you are feeling alone, isolated or anxious. Overwhelmed, perhaps. The café offers complimentary refreshments in a relaxed environment, and you’ll meet others who are going through the same thing. Here, you can share your experiences, make new friends and know that you are not alone.
The organisers will be happy to point you toward therapeutic services if these would be useful.
Caring Together
Eaton Home Care recognises that caring for someone can be stressful; you may feel cut off from the rest of the world.
Based in Ely, at the Paradise Centre on Newnham Street, you may find the support you need in the carers’ hub. It takes place on the first Thursday of every month between 10.00 and midday, offering guidance and advice to help you navigate your role. There are groups and activities to get involved with, too.
Call 0345 241 0954, email [email protected], or refer to their website,

Sing! Together
Ah, the joy of singing.
Not on your own – although that can be cathartic. But, with other people.
However low-key, being part of an amateur choir can be a great joy. Sing! Together is a weekly singing group for those with dementia and their carers. There’s no experience needed. Just come along and spend a wonderful time singing with other people going through the same thing as you.
Working with Cambridgeshire County Council, Mobilise offers support to people looking after someone. Young, or old. They offer a range of free online services, including virtual “Cuppa” meetings – video call sessions with up to 12 other people who are also looking after a loved one.
Here, you can share your experiences as an unpaid carer: cry, laugh and talk with your fellow carers. Also here, there are no strangers. Only friends you’ve just not met yet.
